During the summer I got to take a week off camp to go to Nationals with my dad, They needed help taking picutres and I thought it'd be a total blast! The lake was gorgeous! camping was fun although there was no hot water or showers, but most of all spending some time with my dad and brother was great!
This is Peter, he started sailing the boat just over a year ago I think. He's come a long way with a ton of practice.
This is Ron, the guy who makes it possible to get these boats in the US. It was fun getting to know everybody. I already knew a few from Canada a couple years ago but there were also a few new people.
The lake provided plenty of wind to get their kites up.
A couple Hobie's that wanted in on the fun too.
My dad is the one on the left.
Sailing isn't all fun and games, sometimes things get tangled and you have to improvise and do what you can to get things back under control.
No matter how tired you are.
Meet Lilly, one of the fellow racer's daughter and the cutest little kid ever! haha I met Lilly the first night at dinner when she came in, sat down and proceeded to unwrap her silverware and throw her napkin around her head like a scarf and then as a cape around her neck. She was so cute! This boy apparently thought so too. He would throw things in the air and try to make a big splash, but he always made sure that Lilly was watching him. I don't think Lilly is that into boys yet. haha
She had the sutest hat and wetsuit!
Another night we were taking turns burying the kids in the sand and we'd get Lilly almost buried and then she'd wiggle her toes and all the sand would fall off. Charlotte, one of the other little kids there didn't like this so much so she asked Lilly if she could hold still even for like 1 minute, Lilly got this look of deep concentration and thought and then replied, "I just don't think I can do that" haha
One of the nights we went on a drive, we were trying to find some hot pots that supposedly weren't too far away. The road was terrible but the view was great! and the trees were massive! We ended up turning back early and not reaching our final destination, but it fun to go exploring a bit.
My brother kept himself entertained by getting better at windsurfing, he insisted on having someone take pictures of him every time he went out... thing is, they all look the same! haha
The beach and most of the boats.
The start line. I was out on a little put put motor boat that was rocking back and forth with a telephoto lens trying to get a bunch of pictures, a handful of the photos were of the top of the masts or of the blue water, but after a while I got a hang of just when to snap the shots.
Waiting around waiting for the next race to start.
This is how you're supposed to sail these boats, but it takes the right wind conditions and a lot of practice, I would be flipping out if I were him.
Three of the Swift Solos with their Spinnakers up
Trying to flip his boat back over, and having fun all the while.
It takes a lot of patience and some throwing around of your weight to get these back upright.
My daddy :)
Purple sails!
On the drive back we got to spend a little bit of time in Yosemite park, this is one of the falls there.
It was a nice break from camp, I love spending time outdoors and with my family!
